北本最初は書くことよりも読むほうを考えていたんです。例えば知るべき情報が載っているサイトでも、わかりにくい文字組では読む気にならない。それを書籍のように読みやすくするリーダーアプリはどうかなと。2ちゃんねるもそのアプリを使うとぜんぜん違う情報に見えるのではないかと。でも技術的に難しいところもあって、書く方へいきましたね。文字組やデザインに対するNDCのノウハウも活かせますし。

横田アイデア出しの段階では100案以上ありました。NDCは社内にテクノロジーを持たないので、果たして自分たちがやる意味があるものかというのはひとつ指針になりました。他の会社が似たようなものを開発したときに負けないと思えるか。あとは自分が本当に使いたいと思える、しっくりくる、そういう感覚が大事だなと。

北本僕が画面デザインやアイコンを考えたら横田さんに投げて、横田さんがデザインをブラッシュアップしたりモーションをつけたり、毎回キャッチボールをしながら詰めていった感じです。あとは月1回の社内レビューでアドバイスをもらいました。

北本iPhoneのアプリを制作しているTHE GUILDの深津さんもプロジェクトチームのメンバーなので、クリック数などについてアドバイスをもらいました。アプリは操作性が大事なのでプロトタイピングツールを使ってシミュレーションを重ねました。デザインしている時はいい感じでも、動かしてみると使いづらかった、ということもあって。あと、グラフィックの仕事はミリ単位以下で調節するようなことをしているので、それと比べるとピクセルという単位は大きくて、もっと細かく調節したいなと何度か思いました。

横田3月に社内でstoneの発表をしたんですが、後日、社内のコピーライターが、このアプリを使っての俳句イベントを考えているらしいよと聞いたんです。作家さんを呼んでstoneを使って作品を見せる句会をするようで。そういう盛り上がり方はすごくうれしくて、ほかにも想像もしていなかった使われ方をしたり、もしくは大きな間違いが見つかったりするかもしれない。そうしたレビューがリリース後にいただけないかと楽しみです。

横田売ることの先にある目標は書き手を増やすことです。読むのは好きだけど、書くことはちょっと敬遠してしまう。そんな人たちに書く楽しみを知ってもらえたら。stoneがそのきっかけになれたら。そんなことを考えています。サイトも作りますが、アプリの機能説明だけでなく、文学系のイベント紹介や、筆が進む場所の提案とか、ゲストに物書きを呼んでワークショップをしたりとか、サイトそのものが書くための手引きになれればと。
